Canon 50mm f1.2 in Leica screw mount. Introduced in 1956, with a 7-element, 5-group optical design. Distance scale in feet. Filter thread size is 55mm. This example has a serial number in the 13xxx range, likely produced around 1957.
A large-aperture standard lens from Canon, the 50mm f1.2 is second in brightness only to the legendary f0.95. It is sometimes referred to overseas as the Japanese Noctilux. When free from the common haze issue, this lens delivers beautiful rendering with the unique character of a fast classic. This particular piece focuses accurately and has exceptionally clean glass.

This is a previously sold item from our shop. Over nearly ten years, it has gone back and forth between customers, and this marks an astonishing seventh time it has returned for sale. A lens with an exceptionally strong homing instinct, so to speak.
There is some paint loss on the knurled portion of the focusing helicoid ring, but overall the exterior is quite clean for this model.
Canon 50mm f1.2 lenses are often known for rattly aperture blades and stiff, gritty focusing helicoids. However, this example underwent a full overhaul in 2017, and thanks to careful servicing and being used just the right amount since then, it still offers a smooth, damped, and very pleasant operating feel today. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
This lens is also notorious for developing white haze in the middle elements, but this example is beautifully clear, with no visible haze and no noticeable cleaning marks. The glass condition is exceptionally good.
