Angénieux 50mm f0.95 Type M1. A dream lens for Angénieux enthusiasts. A cine lens of 6 groups and 8 elements, manufactured around 1981.
On full-frame 35mm digital cameras the corners will vignette slightly, but in the face of its astonishing rendering, such minor flaws only add to its charm. Our in-house test photographer also gives it a strong endorsement and presses the shutter with excitement every time.
Among Angénieux lenses, this is a truly exceptional ultra-fast large-aperture lens capable of producing remarkably rich images. Beautiful glow, flare, and soft bokeh combine to create photographs with a painterly character.
This example has been converted to Leica M mount and couples perfectly with the rangefinder. The accuracy of the rangefinder coupling surprised even our test staff, allowing precise focus even wide open at f0.95. Tremendous fun to use. Without question, one of the best Type M1 lenses we have handled.
This item was previously sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its owner.
The lens head and barrel remain in beautiful condition, just as when we last sold it, with only minimal signs of use.
In February 2026, the aperture and helicoid were serviced and re-greased by a professional technician. The operation has improved significantly and now feels smooth, damped, and very pleasant to use.
Rangefinder coupling is excellent. Tested on our Leica M10-P, the focus aligns perfectly from the minimum distance to infinity even at the maximum aperture. A truly astonishing lens that allows precise focus wide open at f0.95 with a rangefinder.
There are only extremely faint cleaning marks on an inner element and a tiny amount of dust, but no haze. The glass remains very clean.
Sample images are available in our Test Shot Gallery, including examples from the previous time we sold this lens. We hope you enjoy viewing them. All photographs were taken near the maximum aperture.
