Nikkor-S·C 8.5cm f1.5. Leica screw mount. Made by Nippon Kogaku.
A fast medium-telephoto lens introduced in 1951. Finished in black paint and chrome. The hood is the type that slides onto and locks with two prongs (not included with this lens). 3 groups, 7 elements. Distance scale in feet. Accepts 58mm screw-in filters.
Please note that even among Nikkor 85mm f1.5 lenses, the filter diameter and hood attachment method differ between the Nikon S, Contax, and Leica versions.
It is said that a total of around 2,000 units of the Nikkor 85mm f1.5 were produced across the Nikon, Leica, and Contax versions. As a fast medium-telephoto, it contains a large amount of glass and weighs a measured 584g. Due to its substantial weight, a tripod collar is fitted at the bottom of the lens.
Wide open, it delivers a soft and gentle rendering with beautiful bokeh, while resolution remains excellent. Even when stopped down, the image does not become overly harsh, allowing for a consistently smooth and pleasing character.
This is a previously sold item from our shop. It was carefully used by the customer and has now returned to us. This is the third time we are offering it for sale, and it continues to maintain a clean overall appearance. There are minor paint losses and light rub marks on the front end of the lens barrel, but the black paint and chrome plating remain in good condition overall.
A full overhaul was carried out in 2024. Thanks to thorough servicing, the aperture ring and helicoid still operate smoothly and comfortably. When mounted on a Leica body, the tripod foot sits slightly off from the exact bottom position, but rangefinder coupling is spot on. Focus snaps in decisively right from wide open.
The glass shows no noticeable cleaning marks and is free from haze, remaining clear and transparent. Actual shooting tests produced excellent results, allowing you to fully enjoy the lens’s original performance.
A 58mm filter and front and rear caps are included; all are third-party items.
