Summilux-M 75mm f1.4, 2nd version.
While the first version featured a separate hood, this second version was introduced in 1982 with a built-in hood. The Leitz product code is 11815. This example bears a serial number in the 3.26 million range and was manufactured in 1983. Made by Leitz Canada. The actual measured weight is approximately 594g. Although it is about 100g heavier than the first version, the minimum focusing distance was shortened from 0.9 m to 75 cm, which is a very welcome improvement. The filter size is E60.
A compact, fast short telephoto lens that can be handled with a feel close to that of a 50mm lens. With minimal distortion, it is well suited for portrait photography. It retains the characteristic soft bokeh of the Summilux while delivering high resolution and excellent detail.
The exterior is very clean. If you look very closely, you can find extremely minor paint wear on the edges of the aperture ring and the helicoid ring, but it is hardly noticeable at a glance. It would pair perfectly even with a brand-new Leica body.
All functions operate properly. With the Summilux 75mm—especially the 2nd version—there are quite a few examples with questionable rangefinder coupling accuracy, but this one couples perfectly. It tracks accurately from the minimum focusing distance of 70 cm at full aperture all the way to infinity.
The glass is clear, with no haze or cleaning marks, and is beautifully transparent. A Summilux-M 75mm that lets you fully enjoy its original rendering.
An E60 UVa filter and original front and rear caps are included.
