Super-Angulon 21mm f3.4 in black chrome finish. An ultra-wide-angle lens manufactured by Schneider. The Leitz product code is 11103. Serial number 2.58 million, produced in 1973. Non-retrofocus design with an 8-element, 4-group optical construction.
The filter size is E48 or Series VII. Rangefinder coupling works down to 1 meter, but close focusing to approximately 0.4 m is possible by scale focusing or using live view. The actual measured weight is about 250 g.
Introduced in 1963 as the second-generation model following the f4 version, this lens remained in production until 1980 as a long-selling model. Compared to its predecessor, the maximum aperture was increased by half a stop from f4 to f3.4.
Because the rear element protrudes significantly, please take care to avoid contact with the camera interior when mounting the lens on mirrorless digital cameras via an adapter. This lens cannot be used on Leica M5 or Leica CL bodies. In addition, on Leica cameras with built-in exposure meters, correct metering is not possible, so shooting must be done in manual exposure mode.
This is a previously sold item from our shop and has now returned to us after being heavily and enthusiastically used by its owner. It clearly shows plenty of use, with character to match—best enjoyed when paired with a well-used body.
Overall, there is noticeable wear, including loss of black chrome finish and various scuffs. There is a dent on the filter ring, but this was corrected during the previous overhaul, and 48mm filters can be mounted without issue.
The included SBKOO finder also shows heavy use consistent with the lens. There are scratches and a very small chip along the edge of the finder glass, but the glass was cleaned in 2023 and the view is bright and clear.
The lens itself received a full overhaul in 2023. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture and helicoid remain smooth and pleasant to operate.
Both the front and rear elements show very minor cleaning marks, along with slight coating wear that is only visible under strong LED light. These have virtually no impact on actual photography. Test shots produced good results.
The set includes the SBKOO finder, 12501 hood, a non-original hood cap, and original front and rear caps, so it is ready to go straight out for shooting.
