Leica MP 0.72 Black Paint. Current production model. Leica product code 10302. This example bears a serial number in the 2.89 million range and was produced in 2002, the launch year of the Leica MP. More specifically, it belongs to the second batch, serial numbers 2890101 to 2891100.
By comparison, the last Leica MP 0.72 Black we sold only recently carried a serial number in the 5.95 million range, a testament to this long-selling model that has been in continuous production for more than two decades.
Introduced in 2002, the Leica MP was designed with durability and reliability in mind, faithfully inheriting the robust tradition of the M system. Its electronics are limited to a built-in TTL metering system; all other operations are fully mechanical and manually controlled. The glossy black paint finish is applied with a thick, durable coating and is known to age gracefully over time.
This camera was actively used by its previous owner for photographic work and received a full overhaul at Leica Japan in 2022, allowing you to concentrate on shooting with complete confidence. Highly recommended as well for enthusiasts who appreciate early production examples.
There is slight brassing visible on the black paint of the film advance lever. A small amount of bubbling can be seen on the bottom plate. Aside from light rub marks on the back door and other areas, the camera remains in overall very clean condition, clearly showing that it has been carefully used.
In 2022, it was fully overhauled by Leica Japan, including replacement of the shutter curtains, meter sensor, and covering. All functions, including the exposure meter, are working perfectly. It has been used appropriately since the overhaul, and the operation of the film advance lever and other controls is smooth. The viewfinder is bright and clear.
The original box, body cap, strap, Japanese manual, German/English manual, and Leica service documents are included.
