Aspherical elements are used in the second and fifth groups. Manufacturing was extremely difficult, and production reportedly could not keep up with demand, leading to discontinuation after only a few years. It is even said that each unit was produced at a loss, yet this uncompromising approach is exactly what makes Leica, Leica.
Announced at Photokina in 1990, but based on the serial number this particular lens was manufactured in 1988. Perhaps Leica struggled to build sufficient inventory in preparation for its release—such speculation by later generations seems almost convincing, given the truly outstanding rendering performance on display. Despite being a 35mm wide-angle lens, it delivers a striking sense of depth. Each test shoot is a revelation.
Rare item.
There is very slight paint wear on the knurled sections and in the grooves used to secure the hood, but overall there is almost no sign of use, and the exterior is exceptionally clean. Truly a mint condition piece, retaining plenty of that new item feel.
Fully overhauled in January 2026. The aperture and helicoid operate exactly as expected, with smooth movement and a pleasing, well-balanced torque. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
The glass is free from haze and cleaning marks, showing beautifully clear transparency. A fine example that delivers the true rendering this double-A lens is known for.
Supplied with a 12587 hood, 14013 hood cap, E46 UVa filter, rear cap, and leather case. A complete set, ready to head straight out for shooting.
