Leica M7 in silver chrome. This example is the Japan version with the Leica logo printed on the top cover. The Leica catalog number is 10504, and the viewfinder magnification is 0.72. With a serial number in the 2.78 million range and a 2001 production date, it belongs to the very first batch of M7 bodies. For reference, the M7 was officially released in 2002.
The long-awaited M model equipped with AE, the M7 brought aperture-priority auto exposure to the Leica rangefinder system. The bright-line frames cover 28, 35, 50, 75, 90, and 135 mm. The shutter is primarily electronic, but 1/60 and 1/125 operate mechanically, allowing the camera to function even in the unexpected event of battery failure.
A Leica M that lets even those uncertain about exposure enjoy film photography with ease. Interest in the M7 has risen rapidly in recent years. Highly recommended for early-batch enthusiasts as well.
This item has returned to us after being carefully used by the previous owner, and it remains in the same outstanding condition as when we last sold it. There is a light rub mark and a tiny scratch of about 1 mm on the side of the top cover near the advance lever, but overall it is a very clean example.
In 2024 the camera received a full check, finder cleaning, and switch maintenance. A faint haze that could not be completely removed during cleaning remains inside the rangefinder prism, though it has little to no effect on visibility. AE also operates correctly, making this an M7 you can use with confidence.
It comes with the instruction manual in German and English, the original warranty card of the period, inspection certificate, Leica Barnack Club membership leaflet, strap, and the original matching-number box.
