Collapsible Summicron 50mm f2. Leica M mount. The Leitz product code is SOOIC-M. Serial number in the 1.32 million range, manufactured in 1955. A lens from the early M3 era. The focusing scale is marked in feet.
A classic large-aperture lens from Leitz. Following the Summar and Summitar, it was introduced as the third-generation high-speed standard lens. Its overwhelming resolving power astonished the photographic industry of the time and, together with the arrival of the Leica M3, played a key role in ushering in the golden age of Leitz.
Although the production quantity of this collapsible Summicron was quite large, examples in truly good condition are increasingly difficult to find. This particular lens remains in relatively good condition and is a fine example to be enjoyed for practical use.
There are some minor signs of use on the base of the barrel and the collapsible section, but no noticeable scratches or dents. Overall, it presents a very clean appearance.
Fully overhauled in February 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid operate with an exceptionally smooth feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is excellent.
On the middle element, there is slight whitish coating wear that is only visible under strong LED light. The rear element shows about four tiny pin-point marks and faint cleaning marks, but these did not appear to affect actual shooting results. The coating remains intact across the entire surface. Performance was very good, including in backlit situations.
Sample images are available in our Test Shoot Gallery. All photos were taken wide open, demonstrating high resolution and excellent rendering.
A well-serviced collapsible Summicron with beautiful performance. An ideal lens for practical use. Comes with a Kenko UV filter and third-party front and rear caps.
