Pre-war Sonnar 5cm f2, made by Carl Zeiss Jena, Germany. This lens was supplied for the Contax II. Serial number in the 2.2 million range, manufactured around 1933. Non-coated. Chrome-plated finish. Collapsible barrel. A classic lens that can be mounted on various Contax cameras, including post-war models.
With an adapter, it can also be enjoyed on a wide range of cameras, including Leica M bodies and mirrorless digital cameras.
There are some light signs of use, including minor rubbing, but no noticeable scratches or dents, and the exterior remains very clean. The plating is also beautifully preserved.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. The aperture operation has been finished with a smooth, pleasantly damped feel. The front element has a few very shallow cleaning marks and slight yellowing of the glass. There is a very small amount of balsam separation around the edge of an inner element, but none of these should affect image quality. The results of our test shots were also excellent.
A Sonnar f2 that has been carefully serviced and is ready to be enjoyed with confidence.
