Summilux-M 75mm f1.4, 1st version. Introduced in 1980, this is the separate-hood model. Leitz product code 11814. Serial number in the 3.15 million range, manufactured in 1981. Made by Leitz Canada. This medium-telephoto member of the Summilux family debuted alongside the Leica M4-P, which introduced the 75mm bright-line frame. The minimum focusing distance is 0.9 m. Actual weight is approximately 491 g. Filter size is E60.
The lens delivers the beautiful bokeh characteristic of the Summilux line, with a moist and gentle rendering at and near full aperture. Compared to 50mm, the longer focal length results in less distortion, allowing subjects to be rendered more naturally. An excellent choice for portrait photography. Despite being a fast f1.4 medium-telephoto lens, its compact size is also a notable virtue.
It boasts a superb exterior condition that still carries the fresh aura of a brand-new item. At a glance, there are virtually no signs of use.
Fully overhauled in December 2025, including precise focus adjustment. The aperture ring and helicoid now offer an exquisite operating feel with just the right amount of torque, allowing stress-free fine focusing even near wide open. Thanks to meticulous adjustment, rangefinder coupling is spot on. This is an especially welcome point, as many Summilux 75mm lenses are known to have unreliable coupling.
Matching its beautiful exterior, the glass is also pristine, with no cleaning marks or haze, remaining crystal clear. Actual shooting tests produced excellent results, allowing you to fully enjoy the lens’s true optical performance.
The lens comes with the 12539 hood shared with the Noctilux E60, a 13381 UVa filter, and genuine front and rear caps. The hood shows some signs of use, such as light rub marks.
