In Japan it is called Heavy Cam, and overseas Snail Cam, referring to the extremely thick, slanted rangefinder cam. This type is seen on early examples of the Elmar 35mm.
Compatible genuine hoods include FLQOO and FOOKH. Our FB-07 Elmar 50mm hood also fits and still allows aperture operation.
On this particular lens, the infinity lock pin has been fixed by a repair specialist so that it does not protrude, preventing interference with L/M adapters. It can therefore be used comfortably on Leica M bodies and digital Leica M cameras without stress. It can be returned to original specification upon request.
There are three small dents on the mount, but they were carefully corrected during the overhaul and do not affect attachment to the mount or adapter.
Aside from light scuffs and minor signs of use throughout, considering that more than 90 years have passed since its manufacture, this nickel Elmar heavy cam remains in reasonably clean condition.
Fully overhauled in January 2026. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the aperture and helicoid now operate remarkably smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is excellent. The internal anti-reflection matte lacquer has also been carefully reapplied, promising more controlled and contrasty rendering.
Under strong LED light, slight glass aging and a few shallow cleaning marks can be seen on the front element, but these have virtually no effect on actual photography. There is no haze or fungus, and the glass remains in reasonably clean condition overall. You can fully enjoy its original rendering character.
