Second-generation Summilux 50mm f1.4. Black chrome finish. Leitz product code 11114. Serial number in the 2.62 million range, manufactured in 1973. Optical construction of 5 groups, 7 elements. Filter size is 43mm screw-in.
With its redesigned second-generation optics, performance wide open became noticeably sharper. While retaining the classic Summilux character, it delivers a more stable and consistent rendering. In recent years, it has reemerged as one of the most sought-after Leica lenses.
Despite its fast f1.4 maximum aperture, the lens remains relatively light and compact, which is a very appealing point. The actual measured weight of the lens itself is 288g.
The black-finished exterior pairs beautifully with modern mirrorless cameras and digital Leica M bodies alike. Truly an all-around performer, and a quintessential standard lens from Leitz.
There are minor losses to the black paint on the edges of the front rim, the aperture ring, and the helicoid ring, but overall this lens shows little sign of use and remains in very clean condition. A Summilux Second that is a pleasure to use.
Fully overhauled in January 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, the operation of all controls is smooth and nicely damped. A slight sound can be heard when the lens is shaken at full aperture; this is a characteristic present since manufacturing. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
The middle element shows extremely slight coating deterioration, but this has virtually no effect on actual photographs. Aside from this, there are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is clear and transparent.
A clean 12586 lens hood, an aftermarket protective filter for Summilux, the original hood cap, and a rear cap are all included, so it is ready to go straight out shooting.
