A self-timer for Barnack Leica cameras. A rare piece in black and nickel finish. Leitz product code APDOO, later renamed 14003. The APDOO is usually found in black/chrome finish, but this example is an early nickel-plated version.
It is mounted by removing the shutter release collar and screwing the unit in its place. The beautiful black paint is accented by the hexagonal Leitz logo, and this early version features three lines of German engraving on the dial side. With Leica accessories, the more engraving there is, the more somehow reassuring they feel, and this piece is no exception.
As an early APDOO, this self-timer is primarily compatible with sheet-metal-era Leicas, from Leica A through IIIb. With models from the IIIc onward, the shutter stroke differs slightly and proper operation may not be possible. It is best paired with nickel-finished cameras such as the Leica DII or DIII.
This item was originally sold by our shop and has now returned to us, having been carefully used by its previous owner.
There are some small marks and minor wear to the black paint, but overall it shows little sign of use and remains in very nice condition.
True to classic Leitz accessories of the period, the workmanship is superb, and the softly whispering, almost sizzling operating sound is simply captivating.
Operation has been checked and confirmed when mounted on a Leica DII.
Highly recommended for collectors.
