Leica DII. Also known internationally as Model D or Leica II.
Serial number 808xx, a five-digit number indicating 1932 production, the first year of the DII. Leica product code: LYCAN.
Features a beautiful black paint & nickel-plated finish. Large tripod thread. Like the Model A, it has a large shutter speed dial, characteristic of early DII models, giving it a classic and distinguished appearance.
The DII was Leica’s first model with a built-in rangefinder, making it a groundbreaking camera in Leitz’s history. Compared to its successor, the DIII, it lacks strap lugs, a slow-speed shutter dial, and diopter adjustment. However, the absence of a slow-speed dial provides a more secure grip, and its streamlined, minimalist design enhances its appeal.
Additionally, the DII played a crucial role in Leica's evolution, laying the foundation for the refined Barnack Leica models that followed.
This is an item previously sold by our shop. It was carefully used by the customer and has now returned to us.
The edges of the body and the bottom plate show rubbing and exposed brass from long years of use. There are no dings or dents, and it carries the feel of being handled with care. The rear gutta-percha covering shows traces of repair, though they are barely noticeable. The covering itself is the original from the period.
Overhauled in 2025. All functions remain in excellent working order. The shutter sound is pleasant, and the finder view is bright and clear.
A camera you can comfortably put to hard use from here on.
