※About rarity

Angénieux 90mm f2.5 Type Y1, Leica L mount. This example has the early barrel. While it follows the initial Type Y1 barrel design, the very earliest Y1 lenses typically fade to a brownish tone, whereas this one has aged to a deep indigo color. A slightly less common variation. The coating is beautifully blue-based with several amber layers, matching the dark blue appearance of the barrel very well. Optical construction is 4 elements in 4 groups. Serial number 154xxx. Manufactured in 1948. Distance scale in meters.
A genuine Leica E43 filter for the Summilux can be attached. Some other 43mm filters may fit while others may not, so it is recommended to check with the actual filter.

Like the 75mm f3.5 Type Z3, many Angénieux 90mm f2.5 lenses suffer from looseness in the barrel that cannot be properly corrected. This example, however, has been carefully serviced and finished to an excellent standard, with precise rangefinder coupling and outstanding performance.

The barrel has aged to a deep indigo tone. Paint loss can be seen along the edges of the knurling and similar areas, but aside from that there are no noticeable scratches or dents, making it a very good cosmetic example for an Angénieux 90mm f2.5.

Fully overhauled in February 2026, including focus adjustment. Careful servicing has resulted in a very smooth operating feel for both the aperture and helicoid. There is no looseness in the barrel, and rangefinder coupling is accurate from the minimum distance at full aperture all the way to infinity.

The minimum focusing distance on the scale is 1.4m, but this particular lens conveniently couples down to approximately 1.2m at the close-focus stop.

Very faint cleaning marks can be seen on the front element and the middle element when examined under strong LED light. However, there is no haze or fungus, and the glass remains clear and well preserved for an Angénieux lens. The lens delivers the characteristic Y1 rendering with excellent sharpness and rich color.

Test shooting results were very good. Samples are available in the sample gallery. All photographs were taken wide open.

A full overhaul including focus adjustment was completed in February 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture and helicoid now operate very smoothly. There is no looseness in the barrel, and the rangefinder coupling is accurate from the closest distance to infinity, even wide open.
The minimum focusing distance indicated on the scale is 1.4m, but this particular example conveniently couples down to around 1.2m at the hard stop.
Very faint cleaning marks can be seen on the front and middle elements when held under strong LED light, but there is no haze or fungus. The glass is clear and well preserved, exceptionally clean for an Angénieux. You can fully enjoy the sharp rendering and rich color characteristic of the Y1 type.
The test shots also produced excellent results. We would be delighted if you could take a look at the samples in our test gallery. All photos were taken wide open.
