Leica M5 Black Chrome

※About rarity

A connoisseur’s M-series camera, the Leica M5 Black. Serial number in the 1.28 million range, manufactured in 1971/72. This example is the early two-lug version, with strap lugs on both sides. The Leitz product code is 10502.
It features a highly legible match-needle exposure meter, and the shutter speed dial is positioned so that it naturally falls under your finger. You can operate the camera without taking your eye away from the viewfinder, making it an exceptionally user-friendly model. Compared to the Leica M4 and earlier models, the body is larger, but its handling and grip are outstanding.
The M5 Black pairs beautifully not only with black lenses, but also with classic chrome lenses such as Summicron and Summilux.

There is a dent on the front face of the top cover at the upper left of the body. Other parts of the body show minor rub marks from normal use, but overall the appearance is reasonably good.
Fully overhauled in December 2025. All controls operate smoothly. The finder shows some deterioration of the coating, but this does not affect viewing. The rangefinder patch has good contrast, and the light meter is working correctly.
Please note that current MR9 replacement batteries such as LR9, V625U, and PX625U are thicker than before and may not fit the M5. In such cases, we recommend using a battery adapter from Kanto Camera.
A practical camera well suited for those who want to carry and use it without hesitation.
