Planar 85mm f1.4 with T* coating, made by Carl Zeiss in Oberkochen. A medium telephoto lens for the high-end Contarex SLR system, manufactured in 1974. Despite its outstanding reputation for three-dimensional rendering and soft, beautiful bokeh, only about 400 units were produced. It is said to have been a special order model for professional use. Ideal for portrait photography. Features a unique three-blade aperture and black metal barrel. Filter size is 67mm. A rare collectible piece.
This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its owner.
As with the previous sale, it shows almost no signs of use and remains in excellent cosmetic condition, still retaining much of its original newness.
It was fully overhauled in 2025, and the helicoid continues to operate with a smooth, well-damped feel.
When inspected under strong LED light, a very faint trace of coating deterioration can be seen, but it has no noticeable effect on photography.
Test shots produced beautiful results, demonstrating the lens’s impressive rendering capability.
Sample images from the previous sale are still available in our test gallery.
Wide open, it delivers crisp focus with pleasing softness in the background, creating a beautiful sense of depth.
When stopped down, the distinctive triangular highlights produced by its three-bladed aperture give images a unique character.
Includes Leica M-mount adapter, UV filter, front and rear caps, case, and original box.
A fine choice both for practical use and for collection.
