Elmar 50mm f3.5. This is the so-called Red Elmar, or Red Scale Elmar, featuring red depth-of-field scale markings. The Leitz product code is ELMAR. Serial number in the 1,200,000 range, manufactured in 1954, the same year the Leica M3 was introduced. 4 elements in 3 groups. Takes A36 filters. The helicoid distance scale is in meters.
The Elmar was Leica’s standard lens par excellence, produced for more than 30 years since the days of the Leica A.
As the final evolution of the A36 Elmar 50mm, its high level of refinement shines through in the rigidity of the barrel and the superb quality of the satin chrome finish.
The correct original hood is the FISON. Flashback’s original FB-07 hood for the Elmar, which allows aperture operation with the hood attached, would also make a fine companion.
This is a previously sold item from our shop. It was carefully used by our customer and has now returned to us. This will be the fourth time we have offered it for sale.
There are some scuffs on the collapsible barrel, but otherwise it has a clean appearance with little sign of use.
It was fully overhauled in 2021, and for this resale, it has once again undergone a full overhaul. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture and helicoid operate beautifully, with an excellent feel. The matte anti-reflection lacquer inside the barrel has also been carefully repainted, so you can expect an even tighter rendering.
The lens shows only the slightest deterioration to the coating on an inner element, but there is no haze, and the glass is beautifully clear and bright. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on. This is a lens you can use with complete confidence and enjoyment. The results of our test shooting were also excellent.
Original front and rear caps are included.
