Rolleinar Sonnar 40mm f2.8 HFT. A Leica screw mount lens adapted from the renowned Sonnar used in the Rollei 35S. Released in 2002 and distributed in Japan by Komamura, also known for Horseman cameras. It features a 4-group, 5-element construction, a minimum focusing distance of 0.7 m, and Rollei’s unique HFT (High Fidelity Transfer) coating. Filter size is E39.
The Rollei 35S is still highly regarded today for its remarkably sharp rendering that surpasses what one would expect from a compact camera, but its scale-focus design makes close-range shooting at the maximum aperture of f2.8 quite challenging without practice. This L-mount version is of course rangefinder-coupled, allowing precise focusing even at close distances. In a sense, it is a lens that makes a long-held dream come true.
The glass was polished at Rollei’s factory in Germany, the barrel was manufactured in Japan by Cosina, then exported to Germany for assembly before being imported back into Japan. Due to this complex production and distribution process, the lens carried a price tag nearly 1.7 times higher than that of the Rollei 35S.
There are hardly any signs of use, and the exterior is in very clean condition with no noticeable marks.
All functions operate correctly, and the rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate. Test shots on our shop’s demo Leica M10-P also produced excellent results.
The matching-number original box, instruction manual, hood, L/M adapter, protective filter, and front and rear caps are included.
