The legendary Leica M3, this example is the model known as the spring-wind type. Leitz product code IGEMO. Serial number in the 950,000 range, made in 1959.
The so-called fukumimi spring-type single-stroke mechanism is an exceptionally scarce variant, produced in only about seven thousand five hundred units out of the total M3 production of roughly two hundred twenty thousand, amounting to less than three and a half percent.
It features the early M3 fukumimi strap lugs from the golden era. Although single-stroke, the spring mechanism means there is no chirring sound when returning the lever after advancing the film. This combination of external design and operating feel makes it a highly sought-after M3 that many collectors and users actively seek out.
This example has just received careful servicing and a full refresh. A highly recommended body for anyone wishing to enjoy shooting with an M3.
All components are original and retain their period character. There is a small ding on the top cover at the right side of the serial number, and some pinpoint wear to the plating on the base plate. While light signs of use can be seen overall, the camera presents a rather clean appearance. The vulcanite is original across the entire body.
Overhauled in November 2025. The winding action and all operating controls have been finished to a very smooth feel.
When illuminated with a strong LED light, a bit of balsam separation can be seen along the inner edge of the viewfinder, but it does not affect visibility. The finder remains crisp and clear.
Suitable both for practical use and for a collection.
