A coated Elmar 35mm f3.5 in Leica screw mount. Leica product code EKURZ. Serial number in the 690,000 range, manufactured in 1949. A welcome meter scale version. This is among the later production batches of the Elmar 35mm.
Among Leitz lenses, the Elmar 3.5cm is the second thinnest design after the Hektor 28mm. It pairs beautifully not only with Barnack Leicas but also with M-mount Leicas, offering outstanding mobility thanks to its extremely compact form.
Wide open, it delivers an atmospheric rendering with natural edge falloff. While orthodox in character, it reveals surprising depth the more it is used, making it a lens that never grows tiresome. This particular example features coating, allowing for calmer, more controlled rendering even in backlit situations or high-light scenes.
A long-loved standard wide-angle in the Leica lineup, the Elmar 35mm has been enjoying renewed appreciation in recent years.
Compatible hoods are FLQOO or FOOKH. Our in-house FB-07 hood for Elmar lenses can also be used.
There are almost no signs of use, and the overall exterior condition is exceptionally clean. Even the mount shows no noticeable wear. A truly rare, top-condition example.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was carried out in November 2025. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture ring and helicoid operate extremely smoothly with a very pleasing feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is excellent.
Matching the beautiful exterior, the glass is also very clean with no noticeable scratches. There is no haze, and the optics are impressively clear and transparent.
Actual shooting tests produced excellent results as well. Combined with the coating, the lens delivers sharp images with strong, well-defined contrast.
An exceptionally hard-to-find condition piece.
