Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f2 for cinema use. Originally manufactured in 1955 with an Arriflex mount, this example has been converted to Leica L mount.
The helicoid is operated by rotating the lens head, so a bit of technique is required for smooth handling. It is recommended to set the aperture first and then focus.
An engraved number, presumably a professional equipment management code, is inscribed on the aperture ring.
Previously sold by our shop. Carefully used by the customer and has now returned to us. This is the third time it has been offered for sale.
In 2020, the helicoid operating knob was installed and the helicoid was adjusted, and in 2025 the lens was cleaned.
There is slight coating deterioration around the edge on the rear side of the front element.
At infinity focus, the rangefinder double image slightly overshoots, but the rangefinder coupling itself works properly.
Sample images taken at the time of the previous sale are posted in our Test Gallery. Please have a look if you wish. When used wide open, the lens delivers a soft, atmospheric rendering with a gentle veil across the image.
