The third generation Summicron 50mm f2. Its name became Summicron-M, the same naming used today. The Leitz product code is 11819. Designed by Walter Mandler, it changed from the second generation’s 5-group 6-element formula to a 4-group 6-element construction.
The serial number is in the 3.51 million range, made in 1990. Manufactured in Germany.
Despite being an f2 large-aperture lens, it remains compact, weighing only 198 g in actual measurement. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7 m, and the filter size is E39. With improved color balance and contrast reproduction, it is a lens that excels in everyday usability.
There is a slight loss of black paint, but the overall appearance is clean. No noticeable scratches or wear are observed.
It underwent a full overhaul including focus adjustment in November 2025. The operation of the aperture and helicoid is now exceptionally smooth, and rangefinder coupling is spot on.
The glass shows no cleaning marks or haze, offering a crisp and clear view. It is a lens that delivers its original performance, and the test shots were excellent.
The 12538 hood, 14033 hood cap, and 14269 rear cap are included.
