The Leitz vertical rangefinder FODIS. This is an early type with a small-diameter distance dial and a five-digit serial number. Produced in the 1920s. Distance scale is in meters. With a base length of 83 mm, it provides remarkably accurate measurements. The minimum focusing distance is 1 m, the same as the built-in rangefinder found on Leica models from the DII onward.
Standing 105 mm tall, it rises prominently above the camera body, presenting a silhouette rarely seen today. Paired with a well-used Leica Model A, it greatly enhances the vintage feel. Enjoy your shooting while reflecting on the photographic style of a century ago.
There is light wear throughout, and the paint shows slight signs of aging.
The edges reveal a touch of brass, giving it the character of an item that has been in use for a century.
The internal prism shows a hint of haze, and the finder glass has minor marks, but none of these affect usability. The view remains clear, and the double image is crisp. Of course, its function as a rangefinder is fully intact.
A practical piece that is still ready for active use. Let it shine once again in the twenty-first century.
