Uncoated Elmar 35mm f3.5, EKURZCHROM. Serial number in the 550,000 range, produced in 1940. Meter scale. 3-group, 4-element construction. Among Leitz lenses, it is the second thinnest design after the Hektor 28mm.
Its rendering wide open, with characteristic corner fall-off, has a pleasing atmosphere. While orthodox in design, it reveals surprising depth the more it is used, and has been increasingly reappraised in recent years.
Compatible hoods are FLQOO or FOOKH, but our original FB-07 hood with aperture control also works comfortably without vignetting.
This item has returned to our shop after a previous sale. It was carefully used by the owner and remains in the same good condition as when it was last sold. There are a few small marks and minor plating loss around the base of the lens barrel, and a very slight distortion to the nameplate can be seen. Overall, it shows some signs of use, but it is a well-balanced example that can be enjoyed without hesitation as a user lens.
A full overhaul was carried out in 2023. Thanks to the careful servicing, even after two years the aperture and helicoid remain smooth and pleasant to operate. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
The glass is clean and clear, with no haze or noticeable cleaning marks. Actual shooting tests produced excellent results. Enjoy the characteristic rendering of an uncoated Elmar, with its gentle and natural color tones.
Aftermarket front and rear caps are included.
