Elmarit 28mm f2.8 first version, later type with yellow scale, commonly known as the nine-element model. Serial number in the 2.19 million range, produced in 1966. Non-retrofocus design. The infinity lock is brass with black paint.

This is a symmetric lens based on the Super Angulon. The rear element protrudes, so it cannot be used on the Leica M5 or CL because it interferes with the metering arm. Since this lens was produced before the 28 mm bright frame existed, the 35/135 mm frame is displayed.

With its distinctive waist-shaped barrel, the striking infinity lock, and a superb balance of character and resolution, it remains a highly popular lens.

Filter size is E48, or you can use Series 7 filters when paired with the 12501 hood.

Black chrome has worn off in various areas, giving the lens a well-used and purposeful look. There are no impact marks or deep scratches. In real-world shooting it delivers crisp rendering even wide open, leaving a very strong impression for an Elmarit. The included hood is also in a practical, well-used condition that suits the lens.

Fully overhauled in November 2025. The aperture and focusing helicoid operate smoothly, and the infinity lock snaps into position with a light, pleasing click. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate.

The front element shows a few very light cleaning marks, but they have virtually no effect on image quality. This lens does not exhibit the common balsam separation seen in early Elmarit 1st lenses. Test shots were excellent.

Comes with the 12501M hood, 14102P cap, rear cap, and a third-party hood cap.

An excellent early Elmarit for practical use. It will pair beautifully with a well-worn black paint body.
