※About rarity

Early Elmar 5cm f3.5. Helicoid number 1. Half-turn helicoid. Distance scale in feet. Short barrel version with nickel-plated barrel. The Leitz product code is the proud and unmistakable ELMAR.

This early Elmar was originally fitted to early Leica Model A cameras from the mid to late 1920s, and was made using glass supplied by C.P. Goerz. This example was later officially converted by Leitz to a rangefinder-coupled Leica screw mount lens.

A fine example with both glass and exterior in excellent condition. It delivers high resolution and crisp rendering from around wide open. A highly capable lens that can be fully enjoyed even on modern digital Leica cameras.

The matching hood is FISON. Our own FB-07 Elmar hood with aperture control function can also be used.

英訳です。

There are light scuffs in places, but considering that this lens is nearly 100 years old, it remains in very beautiful cosmetic condition.

Fully overhauled in May 2026. The aperture and helicoid operate with the pleasantly smooth feel one would hope for. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on.

There are a few very slight marks on the front element, but they would be almost impossible to notice with the naked eye. There is no haze, and the glass is clear and bright.

The results of our test shoot were also excellent. After the rain, we photographed raindrops on the tips of olive leaves in front of our shop, and the lens delivered a striking sense of resolution and depth.

Comes with original front and rear caps from the period, both made of brass with black paint finish.
