Summicron-M 35mm f2, 7-element version. Rare chrome barrel. Leica product code 11311. Serial number in the 3.59 million range, made in 1992.
The first generation Summicron 35mm is the 8-element version, the second generation is the 6-element version, and this third generation is the 7-element design.
This 5-group, 7-element Summicron, often nicknamed the 7-element version, represents the natural evolution of Leica M wide-angle lenses. It offers wonderfully rich bokeh, excellent tonal gradation, impressive rendering and resolution, and a minimal, functional design that has boosted its popularity in recent years. Overseas, it is even called the Bokeh King for its beautiful out-of-focus rendition.
When sales of the 7-element version began in 1980, only a black barrel was available. In 1992, the chrome barrel was introduced, featuring digital-style markings for a more modern look.
Although the optics are the same as the black 7-element version, the chrome barrel is a completely different build, with true brass construction that gives it a distinctive weight. The lens itself weighs 242 g.
The compatible hood from the same era is the 12524. Other popular options such as IROOA, 12585, and 12504 are also compatible. Rare item.
The mount area shows virtually no signs of use, and the overall appearance is exceptionally clean. No hood mounting marks are visible to the naked eye.
Fully overhauled in November 2025, including focus adjustment. The aperture clicks with a pleasing tactile feel, and the helicoid has a smooth, well-damped torque. Rangefinder coupling and focus accuracy are both excellent.
The glass shows only extremely minor coating wear, with no effect on image quality. It is remarkably clear with excellent transparency.
Test shots also produced very good results.
Comes with the 12524 hood, caps, case, and original box.
