The early version of the first-generation Summilux 50mm f1.4, finished in beautiful chrome. Known as the Lady. Serial number in the 1.75 million range, manufactured in 1960. Leitz product code SOOME. Filter size is E43.
The pre-revision first-generation Summilux 50mm is a popular model appreciated for its gentle, softly rendered images at wide apertures. Stop it down by just one stop and the rendering tightens sharply, producing a strong sense of depth. It is a lens with remarkable versatility and expressive range.
The elegant and refined finish that earned it the nickname Lady blends seamlessly not only with period cameras such as the M3 and M2, but also with modern digital bodies. A timeless and superb design. The all-round performer.
There are two or three tiny pin-prick marks on the helicoid, but aside from that, there are no noticeable scratches or wear from the filter rim to the mount. Overall, it has a very clean appearance with virtually no signs of use.
It received a full overhaul in December 2025. Thanks to the meticulous service, the aperture and helicoid now offer excellent operational feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focusing is accurate.
The inner elements show only the slightest hint of coating deterioration, visible only under a strong LED light. Wiping marks are extremely minimal—only a few can be found even under a loupe—making this a remarkably clean example. Glass in this condition is seldom seen.
Test shots also produced excellent results, allowing you to fully enjoy the refined wide-open rendering characteristic of the 1st version.
