The Elmarit-R 90mm f/2.8, a short telephoto lens. This is a 2-cam version, with a serial number in the 2,070,000 range, manufactured in 1965. Made in Germany. This example is the early red-scale type, with red lettering on a black barrel for a sharp, handsome appearance.
Introduced in 1964 for the Leicaflex, it was later made into a 2-cam version with the arrival of the Leicaflex SL. This example appears to have been upgraded from 1-cam to 2-cam by Leitz after the introduction of the SL.
Filters are mounted via an adapter ring for Series 7 filters. The hood is a built-in two-stage telescopic type. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7m.
A modified Gauss-type design with 5 elements in 4 groups. It has a nicely balanced weight when mounted on a camera, and is well regarded as a highly capable lens that renders subjects clearly even wide open. A true performer whose appeal cannot be judged by specifications alone.
There is minor paint loss on the edges from use, but no noticeable scratches or impact marks are visible. The hood shows some fading. It has aged just the right amount, giving it a very nice atmosphere.
Fully overhauled in 2026. The aperture and helicoid have been finished with a very smooth feel.
The glass is in very good condition. When held up to strong LED light, the front element shows slight coating deterioration, but this should have virtually no effect on actual images.
Sample photos have been posted in our test gallery. The rendering is truly impressive, with a striking quality that is hard not to admire.
Original front and rear caps, a 14161 filter ring, and a non-original Series 7 UV filter are included. Ready to take out and shoot right away!
