Summicron 35mm f2, 2nd generation, 6-element version. With goggles, without filter thread. Leica product code is 11309. Serial number in the 2.46 million range, manufactured in 1970 by Leitz Canada.

This is the so-called goggled Summicron, but despite having an E39 filter diameter, it lacks a filter thread, making it an extremely rare model. It is even introduced as a rarity in James Lager’s book, An Illustrated History Vol. II. Among the final production batch of goggled 6-element versions, a small number around serial 2461xxx appear to have been made in this type.

Although often overshadowed by the 8-element version, the 6-element has plenty of strengths and charm: a well-balanced helicoid rotation angle, a focus tab that fits naturally under the fingertip, slightly subdued color rendering, and a depiction that is not overly hard.

For this goggled version only, the infinity mark and aperture index are intentionally offset from the standard position because the goggles interfere with the focus tab. This shifted position is correct.

The appropriate hood is the 12504, which it shares with the Summilux 35mm. Since this lens has no filter thread, filters are mounted by inserting Series 7 filters into the 12504 hood.

There are only the faintest traces of wear on the tip of the distance ring and the focusing tab, but the black paint remains well preserved, making this a clean piece with little sign of use.
The operation of the aperture ring and helicoid is smooth and responsive, with accurate rangefinder coupling and precise focusing.
The glass shows no wipe marks or haze, offering a bright and clear view. Coating is fully intact across the surfaces, and test results confirmed excellent performance.
Comes with original front cap, plastic case, and original box. A fine choice for collectors as well.
