Rigid mount Summicron 50mm f2, rare Leica screw mount version. Leitz product code SOSTA / 11018. Serial number in the 1.6 million range, manufactured in 1958. A fine example of Leitz craftsmanship from the golden era. Distance scale in meters. Minimum focusing distance is 1 meter.
Several years after the release of the Leica M3 in 1954, when M-mount lenses were becoming mainstream, only 1160 pieces of this L-mount version were produced. Mounted on a Leica IIIf or a contemporary Leica IIIg, it looks truly stylish, enhancing the bold character of any Barnack Leica. Of course, it can also be used on M-mount Leicas or digital cameras with an adapter.
A rare piece.
This is an item previously sold by our shop, carefully used by a customer and now returned to us.
There are a few very light scuff marks, but for a rigid-mount Summicron it is in quite beautiful condition. The silver finish on the knurled section is also well preserved.
Fully overhauled in 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, the aperture ring and helicoid still move with a smooth, pleasing feel. Rangefinder coupling and focusing are excellent.
The lens shows only slight coating deterioration on the inner element, which has virtually no impact on actual photography. Otherwise, there are no notable cleaning marks or haze, leaving the glass clear and bright. The coating remains intact across all surfaces.
The rendering of this lens never fails to impress, and this copy is no exception, producing excellent results in test shots.
Comes with original front and rear caps.
