Macro-Elmar-R 100mm f4. 3-cam version. Leica product code 11232.

This lens is based on the Macro-Elmar 100mm f4, a bellows lens without its own focusing mechanism, introduced in 1968. In response to long-standing requests from Leica R users, this version with a built-in focusing mechanism was introduced in 1978 as a true macro lens.

The optical construction is the same as the earlier model, with 4 elements in 3 groups. Built-in lens hood. E55 filter thread.

This is the later version, with the lens name and serial number engraved on the side of the barrel. On the earlier version, the engraving was on the front of the filter ring. The only difference between the early and late versions appears to be the position of the engraving.

This lens has an excellent reputation for superb image quality, from close-up work all the way to infinity. Including the built-in hood, it has a solid, substantial build that gives it a distinctly German industrial feel.

It can of course be enjoyed on Leica R series cameras, and today, with the appropriate adapter, its beautiful rendering can also be enjoyed on a wide variety of modern digital cameras.

There are small marks on the knurled sections to the upper left and lower left of the LEITZ logo. There are also some light signs of wear, but overall the exterior is in very clean condition.

Fully overhauled in June 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, all controls, including the aperture ring and helicoid, now operate beautifully.

The glass has no cleaning marks or haze, with excellent clarity throughout. Truly superb glass condition.
