※About rarity

Nikon S3 Chrome. A rangefinder camera manufactured by Nippon Kogaku. Serial number is in the 6.3 million range. Released in March 1958 as the successor to the S2 and as the more affordable counterpart to the SP.

It inherits the robust construction and reliable performance of the Nikon S series, earning a solid reputation as a practical user camera. The viewfinder permanently displays 35/50/105 mm frames, with parallax correction indicated by marks within the frames. This example is equipped with a cloth shutter curtain (later models were fitted with titanium curtains).

The included lens is the classic Nikkor-S 50mm f1.4, a compact, fast standard lens. It produces soft rendering at wide apertures, while stopping down delivers sharp and crisp images.

There are numerous linear scratches on the front of the camera around the rangefinder dial and on the base plate. In addition, there is a minor ding on the corner of the top cover above the viewfinder eyepiece. Not overly pristine, it is in just the right condition to be used actively without worry.

All functions are working properly. The finder shows only a slight haze, but for a Nikon S3 it offers very good clarity. The rangefinder contrast is strong, making focusing easy.

The included Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens shows minor coating deterioration and very light cleaning marks, but none of these will have any noticeable impact on photography. A perfect set for practical use.
