This f2.8 later version features a modern design that hardly seems to date back about 60 years. Its refined form and functionality make it a perfect match even on current Leica digital cameras.
The Elmar f2.8 produces a soft and gentle rendering near maximum aperture, while stopping down delivers crisp and sharp images.

Many f2.8 Elmars suffer from internal haze deeply embedded in the new-type glass, but the glass of this example is remarkably clear. Although production numbers were high, a clean one like this is surprisingly rare.

There is a small mark on the lower part of the barrel, but otherwise almost no signs of use and a very clean appearance. The retractable section shows only minimal rubbing.
Fully overhauled in October 2025, including precise focus adjustment. Both the aperture and helicoid operate very smoothly with an excellent tactile feel thanks to careful servicing. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned. The interior matte lacquer for anti-reflection has been freshly applied, promising even better contrast.
Under strong LED light, a faint trace of coating deterioration can barely be seen on the glass, but it has no effect on actual photography. There is no haze or noticeable cleaning marks, and the optics are exceptionally clear for an Elmar f2.8. A fine example that delivers the lens’s true rendering.
Comes with its original box (without serial number), plastic case, and a non-Leitz front cap.
