The Summaron is known for its rich, mellow rendering, with beautifully dramatic vignetting that gives images a classic old-lens character. The focused areas are crisp and well-defined. This E39 version pairs exceptionally well with M-mount Leica cameras.
This particular lens has been modified so that the 35mm framelines are displayed. On M2 and later models, including modern digital M cameras, the 35mm framelines will appear correctly.
There are faint scuffs on the depth-of-field scale area at the base of the barrel, but overall it shows little sign of use and remains in beautiful condition. It will look great paired with a clean camera body.
Fully overhauled in October 2025, including precise focusing adjustment. As usual, both the aperture and helicoid operate with exceptional smoothness. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly aligned.
The Summaron is often known for its tendency to develop haze, but this one is strikingly clear. The front element shows two tiny pinpoints of separated balsam, and under strong LED light you can barely detect slight coating deterioration—but neither has any noticeable effect on image quality.
In test shots, even when deliberately pointed into strong backlight or direct sources, it delivered the crisp, tight rendering characteristic of the E39 Summaron.
Comes with original front and rear Leica caps.
