W-Nikkor C 3.5cm f1.8. Rare Leica screw mount. 5 elements in 7 groups. At the time of its release in 1956, it was the fastest 35mm wide-angle lens in the world. While the Nikon S-mount version was produced in considerable numbers, the L-mount version is scarce, with only about 1,500 believed to have been made.
For collectors of bright Leica and non-Leitz 35mm lenses, this is one that inevitably draws attention. Incidentally, the Nikkor 35/1.8 for Nikon S-mount cannot be used on Leica cameras, even with an adapter, because the rear group interferes with the rangefinder roller on the body. This explains why the rare L-mount version has such strong popularity.
The filter diameter differs from the Nikon S-mount version, measuring 43mm. The lens hood is a plastic square hood made exclusively for the L-mount. This accessory is even rarer than the lens itself, making it extremely difficult to find.

There is some minor black paint loss on the aperture ring, but otherwise no noticeable scratches or dents, making for a rather clean appearance.
Fully overhauled in 2022. Thanks to precise servicing, the helicoid and aperture ring still operate very smoothly, free from the looseness often associated with L Nikkors. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, providing precise focus even wide open.
On the glass, a faint cleaning mark can be seen on the front element, but this will not affect actual photography. There is no haze or fungus, and the glass is bright and clear.
Test shots also showed excellent results. Even wide open it renders with firm definition while retaining a gentle softness that is quite characteristic. Sample images have been posted in our gallery, and we hope you will take a look. Truly a fine lens.
