Known as the Lady, this is the white-barrel Summilux 50mm f1.4. The product code is SOOME, later 11114. Serial number is in the 1.94 million range, made in 1962.
Its exterior follows the original Summilux, but the optical design has been updated to the second generation. The lens construction remains 5 elements in 7 groups as in the 1st version, yet the redesign tightened sharpness noticeably at wider apertures.
The soft rendering unique to the first version is wonderful, but the increased realism and clarity of the second version is equally impressive. It is a highly versatile lens that performs well in many situations.
A genuine UVa filter and the 12521G hood are included, making it a ready-to-go set for shooting.
This lens was previously sold by our shop and has now come back to us after being carefully used by its owner.
The barrel shows a number of scuffs and small scratches from normal use, but there are no dents or deep marks. It is in a condition that makes it ideal for using without hesitation.
It received a full overhaul in 2024 when we last sold it. Thanks to the meticulous servicing, the aperture and focusing helicoid still operate with excellent smoothness. On our shop’s demo digital Leica M body, it shows a very slight front-focus tendency at around 1 to 2 meters, but stopping down by about half to one stop brings the focus well within the depth of field, so it should be fully acceptable in practical use.
Along the edge of an inner element, there is a trace of the slight balsam separation often seen on Summilux lenses, but it has virtually no impact on real-world photography. Apart from that, there are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is clear with a crisp, open view.
An E43 UVa filter, 12521G hood, genuine hood cap, and rear cap are included.
