Summicron-M 35mm f2, second generation, 6-element version. Leica product code 11309. Serial number 2.66 million, manufactured in 1973. No focusing tab (tabless type). Made in Canada. Filter size E39.
Following the first-generation 8-element version, it has also become increasingly difficult to find this 6-element Summicron in good condition.
Often overshadowed by the famous 8-element version, the 6-element Summicron nevertheless offers plenty of real substance and appeal: a well-balanced helicoid rotation, a focusing ring that fits naturally under the fingertips, slightly subdued color rendering, and a drawing style that is never overly harsh. Lightweight and compact, it pairs beautifully with Leica M bodies.
There is a small amount of black paint wear on the edge at the base of the lens barrel and a few minor marks on the mount, but otherwise it shows little sign of use and remains in clean condition. No dents or dings are present.
A full overhaul including focus adjustment was carried out in January 2026. The aperture and helicoid now operate with smooth, well-damped movement, and rangefinder coupling is spot on.
On the center element, there is a very minor, pinpoint coating deterioration that can only be seen with a loupe. Other than that, there is no haze or cleaning marks, and the glass is clear and transparent. Test shots produced excellent results.
A third-party front cap and a plastic case are included.
