Elmar 50mm f3.5. This version features depth of field markings in red, commonly known as the Red Elmar or Red Scale. Leitz product code is ELMAR. Serial number in the 1.08 million range, manufactured in 1953. Optical design is 3 groups, 4 elements. Filter size is A36. The helicoid distance scale is marked in feet.
As the final version of the A36-mount Elmar 50mm f3.5, which had been produced for more than 30 years since the Leica Model A era, it represents the culmination of this classic lens. The solid feel of the barrel, the refined matte chrome finish, and the overall sense of completion truly stand out.
The proper matching hood is the original FISON. Alternatively, the Flashback original FB-07 hood for Elmar lenses, which allows aperture operation while the hood is attached, will also serve as an excellent companion.
There are some scuffs on the nameplate. The collapsible section shows somewhat more wear, but overall it retains a clean appearance. Fully overhauled in September 2025. Thanks to thorough servicing, both aperture and helicoid operate with a very smooth and pleasing feel. The internal anti-reflection matte lacquer has been carefully reapplied, promising an even crisper rendering.
The front and rear elements show light cleaning marks and some minor coating wear, but these should have little to no impact on actual photography. No traces of fungus are seen, and the glass remains in good condition. Test shooting results were excellent.
Comes with the original front cap.
