Summicron-M 35mm f2, the popular 7-element version. Black chrome finish. Leitz product code is 11310. Serial number in the 3.24 million range, made in Canada in 1982. Overseas it is often referred to as the Bokeh King for its pleasing out-of-focus rendering.
This third generation of the Summicron 35mm, a 5-group 7-element design, represents the proper evolution of Leica M wide-angle lenses. While the exterior was greatly simplified, the rendering is superb as expected. It delivers rich bokeh, beautiful tonal gradation, excellent resolving power, and a minimalist functional design. Another welcome point is the light weight, measuring only 134 grams.
The contemporary hood is the 12524, but alternatives such as IROOA, 12585, and 12504 can also be used.
There is a slight distortion in the plastic part around the nameplate, and minor paint loss on the edge of the barrel, but no dings or noticeable scratches. The 12524 hood shows some gloss from use.
Fully overhauled in September 2025 — all mechanical operations are now smooth and precise.
Unlike the rather cheap feel often found on other 7-element lenses, this one has a refined, damped operation.
Rangefinder coupling is perfect.
When mounted on a body, the hood tilts slightly clockwise, but it’s hardly noticeable. With a round hood such as the 12585 or 12504, it won’t be visible at all.
The glass is clean and clear, with only a trace of coating deterioration on an inner element.
No haze or cleaning marks are present — overall transparency is excellent.
Comes with a 12524 hood, hood cap, third-party UVa filter, and rear cap.
