Leica CL. A compact Leica born from the collaboration between Leitz and Minolta.
Serial number in the 1.32 million range, produced in 1973/74. Comes with the standard Summicron-C 40mm f2.
It features mechanisms distinct from the M series, such as a 40mm frameline and a vertical-run shutter. The viewfinder also provides 50mm and 90mm framelines, giving it all the essential functions in a compact body. This is a classic camera whose qualities become more apparent the more you use it.
The Summicron-C 40mm offers an exquisite angle of view, with a minimum focusing distance of 80 cm, making it ideal for snapshots and travel photography. This example has been overhauled, both body and lens, ensuring reliable use.
Filters are mounted by inserting Series 5.5 into the rubber hood. E39 filters can also be fitted, but the thread pitch differs, so they only screw in partway.
This item was previously sold by our shop and has now returned after being carefully used by the customer. There is only the slightest loss of black chrome on the bottom edges and protruding corners, as well as some rubbing and paint loss around the strap lug from the strap ring. These are the only regrettable points, but considering that most Leica CL bodies have been heavily used, this set is in remarkably clean condition.
Both body and lens were fully overhauled in February 2025, and all functions operate smoothly. The light meter is also working properly.
The Summicron-C lens shows only two or three very fine cleaning marks on the rear element, with no practical effect on image quality. The glass is otherwise free from haze and remains clear and bright.
Comes with rubber hood and hood cap. With a properly functioning light meter and overall excellent condition, this is a highly recommended set for anyone looking to start shooting with a film Leica.
