Telyt 280mm f4.8, a telephoto lens for Visoflex. Built-in two-stage telescopic hood and preset aperture. Serial number in the 2.12 million range, manufactured in 1965. Made by Leitz Canada. Distance scale in a crisp red scale. Optical design of 4 groups, 4 elements. Minimum focusing distance is 19 feet (5.8 m).
Finished in a handsome black chrome. Solid, precision construction that perfectly reflects Leitz’s golden era. With an M39 screw mount, it mounts directly to the Visoflex I. For Visoflex II and III, it is used via the OUBIO / 16466 adapter.
This example comes with the rare rapid focusing unit Focorapid 14111 with its beautiful hammered finish, along with the dedicated Telyt 280mm adapter 14112G. By removing the lens head and using this special adapter, the lens can be mounted onto the Focorapid.
The Focorapid allows quick focusing via a lever protruding beside the tripod mount. By turning the dial on the lever, precise fine focusing is then possible. An exceptionally well-designed system.
Meticulously crafted in both construction and function, it is a joy simply to look at and operate. A true product of Leitz at the height of its excellence.
There is very slight paint loss on the helicoid ring, but overall the lens shows minimal signs of use and remains in very clean condition. The black chrome finish is deep and rich. The included Focorapid is also in equally fine condition and pairs nicely with the lens.
All functions operate normally. We conducted test shooting using our in-store digital Leica body via a Rayqual adapter. Image quality is excellent, and all operations are smooth and reliable.
We also replaced the helicoid with the Focorapid and carried out test shooting. It truly proves to be an outstanding accessory, combining quick focusing with precise focus adjustment through the rotating lever dial.
Its bold, aggressive look cannot be denied, but with this setup, even shooting a sports day might be possible.
A small amount of dust can be seen inside the lens, but there are no cleaning marks or haze. The glass is crystal clear and beautifully transparent. A cap is included.
