A Dallmeyer telephoto lens for Leica screw mount, Dalrac 8.5cm f2. Manufactured in the late 1940s. Rangefinder coupled. 4 groups 6 elements, double Gauss type.
According to the catalog of the time, this Dallac 85mm was sold separately for Leica screw mount along with the Dalrac 135mm f4.5. The selling points back then were Dallcoated optics, a lightweight metal barrel, and high resolving power. The lens alone weighs 395g. The catalog listed filter size is 51mm slip-on, but some makers accept 49mm screw-in filters.
The blue and purple Dallcoat is beautiful, and only a very small number of these Dalrac 8.5cm lenses were produced, making them quite rare to find in recent years. The aluminum barrel made by Cooke & Perkins is also well crafted, with a neat design that reflects British manufacturing.
Whether wide open or stopped down, it delivers the delicate lines and beautiful glow characteristic of Dallmeyer.
A rarity.
This is an item we previously sold. It was cherished by the customer and has now returned to our shop. Welcome back!
Although the aluminum barrel of the Dalrac is prone to wear, this example shows relatively little use and no corrosion, making it a well-preserved piece. The black anodized areas also show minimal fading, making this one of the cleaner Dalrac 85mm lenses.
It underwent a full overhaul in 2019, and for this resale it has again been serviced in September 2025. Thanks to the meticulous cam adjustment performed during the previous overhaul, rangefinder coupling is spot on, allowing for a smooth and enjoyable shooting experience.
The glass shows a few light cleaning marks only on the coating surface, but overall it is quite clean for a Dalrac 85mm. Image quality is excellent, with accurate focus. A non-original hood and filter are included, along with a Leicoor LM adapter.
