Summilux 50mm f1.4, early type of the 2nd version. A model often referred to as the Lady, inheriting almost the same white barrel as the 1st generation, later changed to a black barrel. Leitz product code SOOME/11114. Serial number in the 2.04 million range, manufactured in 1971. Filter size E43. Compatible hoods are XOOIM, 12521G, and 12586.
5 elements in 7 groups. The design was revised from the 1st generation to incorporate an air-spaced element, adding a pleasant sharpness at wider apertures. While the unique softness of the 1st generation is also attractive, this lens has a huge following for its exquisite balance of a defined core even at maximum aperture. The all-rounder.
There is a small scratch about 3 mm long on the helicoid and a faint scuff on the front end from attaching and removing the hood, but overall it has a very clean appearance.
Fully overhauled in 2023. Thanks to precise maintenance, both the aperture ring and helicoid still operate smoothly. Focusing is accurate, and rangefinder coupling is spot on.
On the front, middle, and rear inner elements, there are fungus marks that could not be completely removed during the previous overhaul, but the fungus itself has been eliminated, so there is no risk of further progression. Other than that, there are no noticeable cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is clear and bright.
The test shots produced excellent results, and sample images are posted in our Test Gallery. The characteristic rendering of the Summilux 2nd version remains intact. All samples were taken wide open. With perfect rangefinder coupling and sharp focusing, this is an ideal lens for those who believe performance is everything and plan to use it extensively.
Comes with non-original front and rear caps.
