※About rarity

Summicron 35mm f2, 8-element black paint version. Serial number in the 1.99 million range, made in Germany in 1963. Engraved WETZLAR. Distance scale in red, commonly known as the red scale version. Minimum focusing distance is 0.7 m. Leitz product code is SAWOM. Coating shows purple and amber hues.

Among the many variations of the 8-element black paint Summicron, this one has a chrome-plated mount (coupler) and a black-painted brass infinity lock. Weight is 181 g.
Shows moderate signs of use yet maintains a bold, handsome appearance. The glass is clean.
Rare piece.

The black paint on the infinity stopper has worn off, revealing the brass underneath. Apart from that, only minor scuffs are visible, and the exterior remains in quite beautiful condition overall. For a black-paint 8-element Summicron, this example is on the clean side, with no dents or dings.
Fully overhauled in October 2025. Thanks to meticulous servicing, both the aperture and focusing rings operate with exquisite smoothness. The infinity stopper engages naturally with a gentle, precise feel. Rangefinder coupling is perfect, and the coating remains fully intact. Test shots produced excellent results.
Comes with original front and rear caps. The front cap shows just the right amount of paint wear, while the rear cap is the rare thin type.
A fine choice to pair with your black-paint Leica body.
