Elmar 9cm f4, Leica screw mount. A rare all-chrome barrel version. Leitz product code is ELANG. Serial number in the 640,000 range, manufactured in 1947.
The all-chrome version is a scarce model produced only briefly in the late 1940s. It was made alongside the prewar-style black/chrome barrel versions for a short period. The lens features a beautiful chrome finish with a subtle, captivating pale blue coating. Combined with its matte chrome texture, the overall appearance is strikingly elegant. It pairs wonderfully with chrome-bodied Barnack Leicas.
Rare.
There is one small spot of chrome plating loss on the helicoid ring, but otherwise there are no noticeable signs of wear, and the chrome finish retains a beautiful, clean appearance.
It underwent a full overhaul in 2020. Thanks to the meticulous servicing, both the aperture and helicoid still operate with a smooth, refined feel. Rangefinder coupling is also perfectly aligned.
The glass shows a few very light cleaning marks on the front element, but it remains free from haze and offers excellent clarity. Actual shooting tests also produced excellent results. You can fully enjoy the Elmar 90mm’s signature rendering with its rich tonal gradation.
Comes with original front cap.
