A nickel Elmar 5cm f3.5 without a serial number. Meter scale, half-turn focusing. Helicoid number 1. The so-called Short Elmar. It is so unusually short that you may find yourself checking each time to see whether the lens has been fully extended.
It is not a so-called old Elmar, but is believed to be a new Elmar originally mounted on a Leica Model A produced around 1930, later factory-converted by Leitz to Leica screw mount with rangefinder coupling.
Enjoy it on a black/nickel Barnack Leica, of course, or on a digital M body via an adapter. Now approaching 95 years of age, yet still very much ready for active use.
A particularly well-preserved example for a nickel Elmar. Minor signs of use can be seen on the exterior, but the nickel plating retains a beautiful luster, with no noticeable dents or significant scratches. There is only minimal wear on the collapsible section, leaving a very favorable impression.
Fully overhauled in January 2026, including precise focus adjustment. The aperture and helicoid operate with an excellent, refined feel. The internal anti-reflection matte lacquer inside the barrel has been carefully reapplied, promising more contrasty and well-defined rendering. Meticulous adjustment has ensured accurate rangefinder coupling throughout.
There are a few very faint cleaning marks on the front element and two tiny pin-point marks on the rear element, but these should have virtually no effect on actual photography. The glass is free from haze and remains beautifully clear.
Supplied with original front and rear caps. The front cap is made of bakelite.
An ideal match for a clean Leica DII or DIII.
