Leica M2 early model with the popular button rewind. No self-timer. Serial number in the 930,000 range, manufactured in 1958. The code name is KOOHE.
This unit belongs to the second batch (929001–931000), which followed the very first batch of Leica M2s produced in 1957 (926001–926200).
It features a large tripod screw and displays bright frames for 35mm, 50mm, and 90mm individually.
Being one of the very first button rewind types among early M2s, the rewind button does not lock. You need to keep the button pressed while rewinding. This offers a unique handling experience compared to later M-type Leicas.
The slim vertical slit-style light window with internal grooves gives it a more modern look than later M2s. The camera offers a smooth and pleasant operation.
An ideal companion for casual street shooting, especially when paired with a steel-rim lens, an 8-element Summicron, or other chrome wide-angle lenses along with a Leica Motor MP.
There are a few very faint scuff marks on the top cover and base plate, along with a single dent below the ASA indicator on the back door, but overall this is a clean and attractive unit. The strap lugs show minimal signs of use and are in good condition. The vulcanite is all original with no chips or cracks.
Overhauled in July 2025. Shutter and film advance operate smoothly, and the viewfinder is bright and clear.
Comes with original body cap.
